Fordham beats Loyola 83-69
NEW YORK — Jon Severe scored 23 points, nine in the final 1:45, as Fordham scored 54 points in the second half to come back and beat Loyola of Chicago 83-69 on Monday.
Severe made all 11 of his free throws, six in the last minute of the game, for Fordham (7-4). Bryan Smith (17), Branden Frazier (16), Ryan Rhoomes (14) joined Severe in double figures.
Fordham trailed 38-29, but came out of the locker room and scored 12 of the first 14 points to take a 41-40 lead. Smith made two 3-pointers during the run. Later in the half, another Smith 3-pointer extended Fordham’s lead to 56-48.
Loyola (5-7) pulled within 66-62 with 3:06 remaining, on Jeff White’s 3-pointer, but Fordham responded with a 9-0 run and made all 14 of its free throws in the final 1:21.
Devon Turk had 14 points in the first half after making four 3-pointers.
