UC Santa Barbara tops Western Illinois 61-55

LOGAN, Utah — Alan Williams scored 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead UC Santa Barbara to a 61-55 victory over Western Illinois Saturday night.

Williams went 6 of 11 from the field and 10 of 12 from the line. Michael Bryson scored 11 points for the Gauchos (7-4) and Eric Childress came off the bench to post 8.

A close first half ended with Western Illinois holding a 29-24 advantage after leading by as many as six. UC Santa Barbara took a 34-31 lead at 15:12 in the second on a Kyle Boswell 3-pointer. Another 3 by Boswell and a bucket by Williams in the final minutes gave the Gauchos lead for good.

The Gauchos struggled with accuracy from the field, hitting just 36 percent overall. The Leathernecks (5-7) had 16 turnovers in the game, nine of which were forced by UCSB.

Jabari Sandifer led the Leathernecks with 13 points.
