Get fit in 2014 with help from Schaumburg Park District.
The District is seeking applicants interested in competing in the Daily Herald's second annual Fittest Loser Community Challenge. The challenge, running from February to May, is organized by members of the local community.
The District's Community Challenge participants will have free access to the District's fitness centers, free admission to Fitness Unlimited and Club 55 land and aqua classes and a free weekly group training session during the challenge.
The team will consist of five people and a Park District personal trainer who will act as captain. Each team member must commit to making healthy lifestyle changes, utilize the Park District fitness facilities, be a supportive and active team member, weigh-in at three official points, report an unofficial weight to the team captain each week, complete free health screenings at the first and final weigh-ins from Alexian Brothers Health System, and participate in at least three Community Challenge activities during the 12-week challenge. Community Challenge activities include free fitness classes, healthy cooking classes, cross-town tournaments and special Fittest Loser menus at restaurants.
Teams will be judged on total percentage of weight loss as a team, team participation in the Fittest Loser Community Challenge events and programs, and team spirit determined by online voting and Facebook participation.
The winning team will get a monetary prize towards their local park district foundation from the Daily Herald. Each member of the winning team will also receive prizes valued at more than $100. The overall Schaumburg Park District individual winner will receive a complimentary annual fitness pass to the District's fitness centers.
To participate on the Schaumburg Park District Community Challenge team, submit your name, address, phone number, email and short reason why you're interested to Fitness Supervisor Alyssa Danca at the front counter at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road, or email email@example.com. The deadline is noon, Jan. 9. Those selected for the team will be contacted Jan. 10.
