Ice cometh before the storm

MILWAUKEE — Freezing rain is closing schools and making travel difficult in Wisconsin.

Jefferson, Johnson Creek, Lake Mills, Edgerton, Boscobel and Burlington are among the dozens of schools closed Friday. The National Weather Service issued a freezing rain advisory for parts of the Badger State.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says Interstate 90/94 is ice covered between Tomah and Mauston, as well as Highways 41, 45 and 23 to the east.

Forecasters say the ice is a precursor to a winter storm that’s expected to arrive Saturday night. The storm is carrying the potential for significant snowfall, sleet and ice.
