Man charged in knifing that blinded Chicago woman

A suspect has been charged in a knife attack that left a young Chicago woman blind in both eyes.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that 23-year-old Basil Mohandie was charged Thursday night with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Wednesday’s attack took place around 6 a.m. outside the woman’s home in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

Police say responding officers found a man standing over the woman with a knife in his hand.

According to authorities, the woman was left blind. She had stab wounds to the eyes, skull and cheek. An artery in her thigh was torn and tendons in both wrists were severed.

Mohandie was scheduled to appear in bond court Friday. It was not yet clear if he had a lawyer.
