Naperville police ask for help to find would-be armed robber

Naperville police are looking for the public’s help to find a man suspected in an attempted armed robbery late last month on the 600 block of Porter Avenue.

Police said the suspect approached a resident walking his dog about 5:50 p.m. Nov 30 and asked for directions. After getting the directions, the suspect displayed a black semiautomatic handgun and ordered the resident to turn over cash and his cellphone.

When the resident refused, the suspect walked away. Police searched the area but could not find him.

The gunman is described as a black man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, jeans and dark gym shoes.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect is asked to call Naperville Crime Stoppers at (630) 420-6006. Callers may remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
