Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District trustees have approved the purchase of a new water tanker vehicle that will improve the district's ability to deliver water to areas of its jurisdiction that do not have fire hydrants, officials announced.

The 3,000-gallon tanker recently arrived at district headquarters and will begin service Jan. 1, when the district launches operations independent of the village of Barrington's fire department.
