Park Ridge Falcons 5th Grade Pom Squad Wins State Championship

The Park Ridge Falcons 5th Grade Pom Squad took home the title of State Champions at the IRCA (Illinois Recreation Cheerleading Association) Cheer and Dance State Championship last Sunday, December 8th. The three day competition took place at the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates.

This is the third year in a row that this impressive squad has received top awards at the IRCA state event. In 2011, the Falcons received a first place finish in the 3rd grade poms division followed by a 2nd place honor in 2012. Now these athletes reclaimed the coveted first place prize and are once again state champions in 2013.

The squad is comprised of twelve third through fifth graders from Park Ridge. The athletes represent six different elementary schools within Park Ridge, and most have remained team members for all three years. Beth Tarzia is the talented coach of this team and generates a distinctive vision each year for the squad's routine. With a fifth grade daughter Olivia on the team, Coach Tarzia brings a perfect combination of dedication, enthusiasm, patience and humor; making the squad a positive and motivating experience for all team members. Park Ridge dance instructor Dawn Brunner assists with developing the challenging choreography, bringing Beth's creative vision to life. Other crucial team members include the squad's manager Vicki Lee, assistant coach Denise Spallone, and Falcon sponsor Jim Dihu. Congratulations to the Park Ridge Fifth Grade Pom Squad on their state championship title.
