Snowstorm forces airlines to scrap Chicago flights

While snow led to canceled airline flights and treacherous side streets Saturday, some Chicago area residents were taking delight in the chance to play.

Members of First Baptist Church in Geneva parish, for example, put out an impromptu invite for a sledding get together on their Facebook page. About 30 children and adults showed up, some even bringing hot chocolate. A snowball fight among some of the adults ensued, too.

The day was less pleasant for travelers though, as airlines canceled nearly 100 flights out of Chicago’s two airports Saturday monring because the snowstorm reduced visibility.

The Chicago area was forecast to get 3 to 6 inches of snow by late Saturday afternoon.
