Chicago Post Office sets Sunday package deliveries

CHICAGO — The U.S. Postal Service in Chicago plans to deliver packages on the two Sundays before Christmas to make sure packages arrive on time for the holiday.

The postal service announced the extra deliveries Friday, saying a surge in packages mailed this holiday season exceeded projections.

The Chicago Post Office also will start early-morning package deliveries through the week.

Post office officials advise sending first-class mail by Friday to make sure it arrives before Christmas. The deadline for sending priority mail in time is Saturday, Dec. 21.

Residents are asked to clear snow and ice to help mail carriers.
