Celebrate Santa Lucia Day at Geneva library

Submitted by Geneva Public Library District

The Geneva Public Library, 127 James St., invites kids, adults and everyone in between to “Celebrate the Season.” Friday, Dec. 13, is Santa Lucia Day, and Geneva’s own Santa Lucia will make an appearance at the library’s event.

“Wait until you see some of the library staff in the costumes we have made,” said Kimberly Gotches, public relations and adult program associate. Families are encouraged to bring a camera to capture a visit with a special someone from the North Pole.

This year’s event will feature performances by local musicians from the Geneva High School, an ensemble from the Chamber Orchestra and the Jazz Choir.

“We are so excited to showcase the talents of our local teens,” says Peggy Carlson, assistant director.

Guests also have the opportunity to participate in the library’s Giving Tree, supporting Marklund at Mill Creek, a residential community serving adults with severe and profound developmental disabilities.

The Giving Tree is currently located near the check-in desk. Interested donors may pick a tag from the tree now, or at the “Celebrate the Season” event. The tag lists a store to purchase a gift card for a resident at Marklund, who will go on a special outing to use it.

Returned tags with gift cards will be accepted by the greeter at the door during “Celebrate the Season.” Gift cards must be returned to the library by Monday, Dec. 16.

Geneva library staff invites the community to attend this special event, which will be from 6 to 8 p.m. The library closes at 5 p.m. on Fridays, but doors will open for the event at 6 p.m. Crafts, refreshments and fellowship will highlight the evening.

“The Geneva library is the place to be to celebrate a season of togetherness and community,” Gotches said.
