Johnston leads Meadows victory

Sophomore Kelly Johnston led the as Rolling Meadows’ girls gymnastics team earned a 127.15-123.25 victory over host Buffalo Grove on Tuesday.

Johnston had the top finishes in all events, winning vault (9.5), bars (9.15), beam (9.2) and floor (9.25) for an all-around total of 37.1.

Sophomore Diandra Duenser was BG’s top competitor, taking second on floor (8.1) and beam (8.35) and third on vault (8.6) for a third-place all-around total of 32.55.

Rolling Meadows’ Victoria Zervos placed second on vault (8.7) and bars (8.15) and was second in the all-around (33.00).

Senior Erika Ray placed fourth in the all-around (31.85), and the Bison also had the fifth-, sixth- and seventh-place all-arounders in sophomore Sarah Cottone (29.30), Isabell Samson (28.35) and Ana Cinch (28.25).

Palatine d. Hoffman Estates: Junior Jasminka Sabic had at least a share of victory on all four events and had the top all-around total, but host Palatine showed better depth in a 126.9-116.3 victory over the Hawks.

Sabic tied for first with Palatine sophomore Claudia Przystal and junior Andrea Ori on vault (8.9) but won outright on bars (8.0), beam (9.0) and floor (9.15).

Palatine freshman Kara Ure was second on bars (7.75) and beam (7.9) and placed second in the all-around (32.6).

Przystal was third in all-around (31.0) and Pirates teammate Megan Cunningham was fourth (30.3). Cindy Feliciano provided Palatine with a third-place finish on bars (7.4).

Prospect d. Wheeling: The visiting Knights had a different winner on each event — one from each class — in topping Wheeling 141.20-119.50.

Senior Jackie DiFonzo won vault (9.45), junior Maddie Larock won bars (9.40), sophomore Megan Donner won beam (9.10) and freshman Olivia Gonzalez won floor (9.55).

Donner had the top all-around score (35.9), followed by Larock (35.65) and freshman Megan Schmit (34.45).

Wheeling’s top performers were senior Anne Janulis, who was fourth on vault (8.7) and sixth in all-around (31.0), and senior Annah Meintzer, who tied for third on beam (8.0).
