A Sweet Idea Raises Money for Feed My Starving Children

Glen Ellyn, IL Dec.8, 2013: Four years ago, at age 11, Erica Mote wanted to make a difference in her community, St. Louis, Missouri. She came up with the idea to make and sell fudge during the holiday season and give all profits to a well deserving charity. Today, at age 15, Erica lives in Glen Ellyn and has built a booming fudge business called Sweet Charity Fudge, www.sweetchairtityfudge.com.

Sweet Charity Fudge has raised over $2,500 since its beginning. Proceeds have gone to various charities including the Bosnian Food Pantry in St. Louis, The East Asia Institute and Heifer International. This year, Erica has decided to donate all her proceeds to the Christian non-profit Feed My Starving Children. For the first time this year, she is working with Long Grove Confectionary to make her fudge recipe in order to meet the growing demand of her customer base, which doubled last year with Erica's move to Glen Ellyn.

“What started as a small service project of making fudge from scratch in my kitchen has grown so much more than I ever expected and I'm eager to take a big leap this year by selling my fudge online and in stores for the first time,” said Erica Mote, founder of Sweet Charity Fudge. “It has been amazing to be able to support these different charities, and I'm excited about where Sweet Charity is going. I am looking forward to raising even more money for Feed My Starving Children this year.

Various flavors of Sweet Charity Fudge: Original, peppermint and pecan, can be purchased online at www.sweetcharityfudge.com or at Marcel's Culinary Experience located at 490 N Main St. in downtown Glen Ellyn. Fudge is available for purchase today through December 24th or until supplies last.

“Sweet Charity Fudge is delicious, and you feel extra good about your purchase knowing 100 percent is going to a well deserving charity,” said Jennifer Schoenherr, customer of Sweet Charity Fudge.
