Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has appointed a former executive to be the city’s new comptroller.

Emanuel announced Friday that he appointed Daniel Widawsky to the position. The appointment is subject to approval from the Chicago City Council.

Widawsky has worked as a managing director at Citadel LLC since 2007. Before that he was a senior executive at GE and a vice president at NBC. The mayor’s office says Widawsky has experience in finances, taxes and law.

Widawsky says in a statement that he will focus on managing city resources “efficiently and effectively.”
