Turkey Jam turns Meineke gym into energy packed dance floor

The hit songs of Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and One Direction had youth showing off dance moves in the Meineke Recreation Center gym.

More than 70 young Swifties, KatyCats and Directioners kicked off Thanksgiving break at Schaumburg Park District’s 3rd and 4th Grade Dance Party Turkey Jam. The Nov. 26 event was a hit with participants.

“Turkey Jam was great,” said Max Motykie, 8. “I got a chance to dance and see my friends before break.”

A DJ played the latest hits and led participants through activities including rounds of limbo, hula hoop contests and a cylinder stacking game. Board games were available for children looking for a quieter evening with friends.

Park District volunteers helped with activities and concessions.

The lineup for the winter youth events will begin with the 5th and 6th Grade Holiday Ball Dec. 20 at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. Other upcoming events include the 4th to 6th Grade Sports Night on Jan. 17 at the Sport Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Road, and 3rd and 4th Grade Sunday Night Funday Night on Jan. 19 at Bock Neighborhood Center, 1223 W. Sharon Lane.
