West Aurora wins DVC opener
West Aurora opened DuPage Valley Conference play Thursday night with a 38-29 win over Glenbard East.
The Blackhawks (6-1, 1-0) were led by Abriya Zeitz (11 points, 8 rebounds), Taylor Jacobsen (7 points, 4 assists) and Liz Skaggs (5 points, 7 rebounds).
Rosary 66, Guerin 28: The Royals (5-2) were led by Megan Conlin’s 20 points and Rachel Choice’s 6 steals.
Rosary made 20 of 24 free throws. Adrienne Winkel added 10 points and Choice and Taylor Drozdowski both scored 8.
Aurora Central Catholic 39, Ottawa Marquette 28: The Chargers (4-2) broke out of their shooting slump in the fourth quarter to pick up a road win Thursday.
According to Chargers coach Mark Fitzgerald, Aurora Central’s defense led to offense with tight pressure that clearly bothered Marquette. The Chargers outscored Marquette 18-5 in the fourth quarter.
ACC was led by Junior Kalie Soris with 13 points, and junior Natalie Droeske and sophomore Veronica Lavia with 9 each.
Freshmen Taylor Harazin held Marquette’s best player to 5 points.
The Chargers open their final SCC season at Montini on Saturday.
