Rolling Meadows getting temporary post office for holidays
Rolling Meadows residents who miss their post office have gained a short reprieve for the holiday season.
U.S. Postal Service employees will bring a truck to city hall, 3600 Kirchoff Road, for two Saturdays before Christmas to help residents who want to purchase postage and send letters and packages, city officials announced.
The hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 and Dec. 21.
The only post office in the city closed in May 2012, and Mayor Tom Rooney said he and the city's aldermen have received many complaints and “snarky” remarks from residents since. Going to a neighboring town is inconvenient for some, and others think it is insulting that a community of 25,000 residents does not have its own post office, he said.
