Geneva’s Christmas Tree gets decked out

Geneva’s annual Christmas Walk and House Tour starts Friday, and Thursday afternoon city workers dressed the town’s tree on Third Street. It was a typical holiday decorating scene, except on a much larger scale.

Linemen Keith Benson and Mark Shiltz swayed in the wind while standing in cherry pickers to reach the top branches of the giant tree on the front lawn of the old courthouse, and zip ties were used secure the larger than life handmade ornaments made by local children. The tree, which is also adorned with approximately 12,500 lights, will be lit by Santa Claus and Mayor Kevin Burns at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The House Tour is 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
