A gift for China in every shopping bag

In the frenzy of post Thanksgiving holiday shopping, maiming and injuring hundreds in the stampedes rushing to snatch something still unaffordable off the shelves, we achieve a momentary political detente with our largest Asian “partner.” Setting aside tariff imbalances, labor rate differences, respective governmental regulations and the flow of low-cost products going in one direction and money going in the other, inadvertently we change the basic symbolism of The People’s Republic of China.

Thanks to the United States of America, in its voraciousness to consume China’s imports, every year at this time we change the color of their national identity from “Red China” to “Black China.” Is this what we call unintended consequences?
