Glen Ellyn Historical Society names new board, welcomes volunteers

The Glen Ellyn Historical Society has elected four new board members to create an eight - member Board of Directors. The new members will serve two year terms and are as follows: Maria Boundas Bakalis, Milton Cox, Al Lewek, and Rose Southard. New officers of the Board of Directors are President Suzanne Carty, Vice President John Zemenak, Secretary Rose Southard and Treasurer Milton Cox.

The GEHS announces the addition of two staff members. Kathy Becker, who was the former owner of the Hallmark Store in Glen Ellyn and Manager of the Gift Department at Schmid's Pharmacy, is Stacy's Corners Store Manager/Buyer and Administrative Assistant Carmen Guererro, who brings experience as an interpreter and museum educator to the History Center staff. “The addition of new board and staff members prepares the Glen Ellyn Historical Society for a stronger and more exciting future.”

Additional volunteers are needed to assist at Stacy's Corners Store as store clerks. Special Projects Volunteers are needed to assist in developing an exhibit that focuses on the train lines that have connected Glen Ellyn to Chicago since 1849 when the Galena and

Chicago Union Railroad (later the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad) opened for business. The exhibit opens in April of 2014 and will include historical as well as contemporary photographs, artifacts, and stories relating to railroads - both then and now.
