Hoffman Estates police host “Shop with a Cop”

The Hoffman Estates Police Charitable Foundation (HEPCF) will sponsor its 14th annual “Shop with a Cop” holiday event Dec. 14 to help provide gifts to needy young people in the community and their families.

Members of the Hoffman Estates Police Department will be paired with one of 50 needy children, who each will be allowed to spend about $125 at Target for gifts. After shopping, the cops and kids will be bused to the Chicago Marriott Northwest in Hoffman Estates where a complimentary breakfast will be served, courtesy of the hotel. Everyone will be treated to games, crafts and a visit from Santa, who will provide each child with a gift and a stocking full of goodies, thanks to the generous support of many local businesses.

The children who benefit from Shop with a Cop have been identified as in need of help for the holidays, and include direct referrals from School District 54 social workers in Hoffman Estates schools. Many of the children come from the Community Resource Center, which is supported by School District 54, and located at the Salem Hill/Interlude Apartments in Hoffman Estates and at the police station.

The HEPCF is a not-for-profit organization made up of sworn officers from the Hoffman Estates Police Department, and is committed to giving back to disadvantaged families in the village. This annual event is made possible through the support of charitable businesses and residents, and year-round fundraisers. Please send any donations to support this event to: HEPCF, P.O. Box 95611, Hoffman Estates, IL 60169-0611. For more information, contact Lt. Carl Baumert (847) 781-2807.
