Hoffman Estates man sentenced to prison for videotaping minor

A Hoffman Estates man pleaded guilty Wednesday to using his cellphone to videotape under a girl’s skirt.

In exchange for Juan Lara-Ramirez’s guilty plea to the class 3 felony, Cook County Judge sentenced the 30-year-old to two years in prison and awarded him credit for the 125 days he has spent in custody.

On Aug. 2, a loss prevention officer for a Palatine Walmart, watching on circuit camera, observed Lara-Ramirez crouching down while holding his cellphone under a young girl’s skirt, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Crowe. The loss prevention officer detained Lara-Ramirez and called police, who recovered a video of the 8-year-old girl on the defendant’s cellphone, Crowe said.
