Arlington Heights

Ÿ An unknown offender shot BB-gun pellets between 7:45 and 8 p.m. Nov. 30 that shattered a southside window at Portillo’s, 506 W. Dundee Road, hit an employee standing in the north-side drive-through lane in the cheek, and dented a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt on the front passenger’s-side fender. The offender may have been sitting in a dark-colored Dodge Durango-type vehicle parked in a nearby store lot. According to reports, the employee was not seriously injured.

Ÿ Burglars stole 70 thermostats, a band saw, electric heater and various hand tools between 3 p.m. Dec. 2 and 6:45 a.m. Dec. 3 out of a building under construction at Lutheran Home retirement community, 1110 N. Kennicott Road. Value was estimated at $5,900.

Ÿ Heidi I. Muhlenbruch, 44, of the 1300 block of Prospect Avenue, Des Plaines, was arrested around 1 a.m. Dec. 2 after a traffic stop at East Wing Street and Arlington Heights Road and charged with felony aggravated DUI, uninsured motor vehicle, and traffic violations. She was also arrested on an outstanding Cook County warrant for retail theft. She has three prior DUI convictions, according to a police report. Her court date is Dec. 18.

Ÿ Lauren Anne Gustafson, 23, of the 400 block of South Harvard, Villa Park, was arrested around 6:17 p.m. Dec. 1 at Kohl’s, 800 W. Dundee Road, and charged with felony retail theft. Reports said a security agent saw her hide three necklaces, a ring, and a children’s earring set in her purse and hide children’s 3-piece clothing set and a nail polish set in a shopping cart. Value was estimated at $359.

Ÿ Kathryn J. Thomas, 29, of the 500 block of Chesterfield, Barrington, was arrested around 10:17 p.m. Nov. 28 at Kohl’s, 800 W. Dundee Road, and charged with retail theft. Reports said a security agent saw her hide a designer fragrance in her shopping bag of previously purchased items and pendant necklace in her purse. Value was estimated at $65. Her court date is Jan. 21.

Ÿ Burglars stole a camera bag containing a camera valued at $3,000, tripod, five lenses, and two memory cards between Nov. 10 and 18 out of an unlocked 2007 Chevrolet Express van in a driveway on the 1300 block of West Park Street.

Ÿ Thieves stole a cream-colored 2003 Volkswagen Beetle convertible between 11 p.m. Nov. 28 and 6 p.m. Nov. 30 out of a locked condominium garage on the 1800 block of West Surrey Park Lane.

Ÿ Vandals used an ax to cut down a 40-foot-tall red cedar tree between 5 p.m. Nov. 26 and noon Nov. 27 in Heritage Park, 506 W. Victoria Lane. The tree was in a line of cedar trees along the side of the sledding hill; it was at the top of the hill. The remaining stump is 14 inches in diameter. The tree was left on the ground. Damage was estimated at $3,500.

Ÿ Thieves stole a wallet valued at $100 between 3 and 4 p.m. Nov. 23 out of a customer’s purse at Old Country Buffet, 445 E. Palatine Road. Someone used a credit card in the wallet to charge over $1,300 around 5:35 p.m. Nov. 23 at a Target in Arlington Heights.

Ÿ Burglars likely entered an apartment on the 2400 block of North Kennicott Drive through the front door between 4:40 and 6:15 p.m. Nov. 27 and stole an iPad and a men’s silver wedding band. Value was estimated at $750.

Ÿ Burglars entered five unlocked vehicles (four in driveways) between Nov. 27 and 29 and stole a wallet valued at $75 between midnight to 8 a.m. Nov. 27 on the 1600 block of Portsmith; a wallet out of a 2007 Lexus ES 350 on the 800 block of Happfield Drive and used a credit card in the wallet at a Walmart in Wheeling between 4 p.m. Nov. 27 and 6 a.m. Nov. 28; a cellphone and charger valued at $300 on the 1200 block of West Nichols between midnight and 9:30 a.m. Nov. 28; prescription medication on the 4100 block of North Harvard between 10:30 p.m. Nov. 27 and 10:53 a.m. Nov. 29; and a cellphone out of an 2010 Hyundai Elantra in an apartment lot on the 0-100 block of South Dryden Place between 12:30 and 9 a.m. Nov. 29.

Ÿ A man ran from an open garage between 2:30 and 2:45 p.m. Dec. 1 when the resident saw him there. He fled in an older-model Ford scrapper-type truck driven by an accomplice. He was described in his late 20s to early 30s, 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, brown hair and wearing a gray hoodie and blue jeans. The truck had a red front end and gray body.

Bartlett

Ÿ Police conducted an additional 45.5 hours of grant-funded specialized traffic enforcement to target intoxicated drivers over Thanksgiving, arresting one motorist for driving while license suspended, two for DUI and driving while license suspended, one for aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while license revoked and 1 for DUI. Police also issued 31 warning or traffic citations for speeding, 24 warning or traffic citations for other moving or non-moving violations, and four traffic citations for insurance violations. Police also conducted an additional 19 hours of specialized traffic enforcement to target seat belt violations, issuing 19 traffic citations and one speeding violation.

Elk Grove Village

Ÿ Police conducted increased grant-funded traffic enforcement Nov. 18-Dec. 1, stopping 215 vehicles, issuing 227 seat belt citations, five child restraint citation, four uninsured motor vehicle citations and 36 other citations for various moving or equipment violations. Two drivers were arrested on charges of driving while license suspended.

Mount Prospect

Ÿ Honqdi Duan, 58, of the 1000 block of North Penny Lane, Palatine, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at Carson’s, 1025 Center Drive, and charged with felony retail theft. Reports said a security agent reported that Duan had hidden a bra, scarf and hat, value estimated at $158, in her purse. She received the felony charge because she had previous arrests for retail theft, reports said. Her court date is Jan. 2.

Ÿ Jindagiben Patel, 23, of the 600 block of Colonial Park, Des Plaines, was arrested around 6:20 p.m. Nov. 23 at Walmart, Mount Prospect Plaza, Rand and Central roads, and charged with retail theft after a security agent saw her hide clothes, wallets, cosmetics, razor, and a face cloth in her purse; value was estimated at $184. Her court date is Jan. 7.

Ÿ Vandals hit a mailbox with a vehicle between 5 and 6:45 p.m. Nov. 19 at a home on the 200 block of South Prairie. Damage was estimated at $800.

Ÿ An officer on patrol around 11:55 p.m. Nov. 23 in an apartment complex parking lot saw two men standing at a 2000 BMW sedan. One man served as lookout while the second man used a tire iron and flashlight to smash the front driver’s-side window and reach inside. They fled when the officer approached. Damage was estimated at $250.

Palatine

Ÿ Police through a grant-funded traffic enforcement campaign set up six safety belt enforcement zones around Thanksgiving, issuing 62 tickets for seat belt violations, 17 for speeding, 10 for no insurance, two for DUI, two for child safety restraint violations, one for suspended driver’s license, and 11 for other traffic violations.

Prospect Heights

Ÿ Vandals used a black marker between Nov 29 and Dec. 1 to write gang graffiti on decorative luggage inside the Metra depot, 101 S. Wolf Road. Damage was estimated at $100.

Rolling Meadows

Ÿ Police conducted 48 hours of grant-funded additional traffic enforcement over Thanksgiving, stopping 82 vehicles and issuing 43 citations for failing to be properly secured with a seat belt, 14 for speeding, three for uninsured motorists and making four drug arrests.

Wheeling

Ÿ Police in a grant-funded traffic enforcement program around Thanksgiving made one felony DUI arrest, two for driving while license suspended, four for no valid driver’s license arrests. They also wrote 89 safety belt citations and 81 other traffic citations.
