Lawmakers could make pension vote today

State lawmakers could take a historic vote on pension reform today. Before that, they’ll likely hear lengthy debate about the proposal that’s said to save $160 billion over 30 years. It also calls for cuts to retirees’ yearly benefit increases, raising the retirement age and lowering how much workers have to pay toward their own retirement, among other things. Full story.

Dominick’s stores to become Mariano’s

In the next few months, 11 Dominick’s grocery stores in the Chicago area will be transitioned into Mariano’s stores. That includes suburban locations in Gurnee, Buffalo Grove, Aurora and Park Ridge. Milwaukee-based Roundy’s Supermarkets Inc., the owner of Mariano’s, signed a $36 million deal with Dominick’s owner Safeway Inc. to acquire the stores. Unconfirmed reports had more purchases of Dominick’s stores in the works. Full story.

Bank robberies hit Palatine, Rolling Meadows

Two separate bank robberies happened yesterday in Palatine and Rolling Meadows. Police don’t believe the same robbers committed both heists, though the robber in the Rolling Meadows case is believed to hit the same bank and two Villa Park banks earlier this year. No arrests have been made in either robbery, even after a search with dogs and a helicopter of the Palatine neighborhood. Full story.

Lawmakers get Arlington Park legislation moving

Legislators jump-started legislation yesterday intended to prevent huge cuts to the Arlington International Racecourse by allowing gamblers to bet horses online. The legislation passed through a House committee, but lawmakers are facing a tight deadline with other time-consuming pension talks happening in Springfield as well. Full story.

Burglar who hit 12 suburban homes gets 13 years

A 28-year-old Elgin man pleaded guilty Monday to burglarizing 12 homes in Elgin, Streamwood, Schaumburg and Bartlett between May and June of this year. A Cook County judge sentenced Ryan P. Marshall, to 13 years in prison in exchange for pleading guilty. Full story.

Thieves steal bras from Victoria’s Secret

A South Barrington Victoria’s Secret experienced a couple of big retail thefts recently totaling 72 stolen bras valued at $3,690. Police say thieves have been targeting the store chain, which typically employs a small staff. Full story.

Weather

Light fog will start the day with temperatures hovering at 38 degrees when you head out this morning. It will climb to 50 degrees this afternoon before some showers roll in and temperatures drop to 45 degrees tonight. Full story.

Traffic

Intersection work will be ramped up at Route 137 and Route 21 in Libertyville in the next couple of days, and current traffic patterns will shift today. People should be prepared for the new traffic pattern. Full story.

Pelicans best the Bulls

The Bulls fell 131-128 to the New Orleans Pelicans in triple overtime last night at the United Center. Jrue Holiday made a three-point play with 2.6 seconds left to finish the game off. Luol Deng led the Bulls with 37 points. Full story.
