Hersey High School students bring Dr. Seuss stories to life

Twice a year, John Hersey High School’s Acting I, II, III, and IV students develop, stage and perform material from various children’s stories for the school’s preschool and Career and Life Skills students.

This biannual educational opportunity engages high school students in a unique experience to perform, direct, act and interpret various stories for children. This year, the teens focused on Dr. Seuss and Aesop.

“I believe that the Children’s Theater Unit teaches our high school students to remember that imagination and performance are vital tools,” said acting teacher, Lara Becker. “Each semester, I am always looking forward to seeing how the high school students learn to work cooperatively and creatively to produce and perform for our youngest Huskies.”

But the value doesn’t stop there. Laura Mosher, Hersey’s preschool teacher, sees the joy in her student’s eyes as they see their favorite stories come to life before them.

“From a curriculum standpoint, this opportunity is a great way to further develop and expand our little ones’ interests in the arts,” she said. Our preschool parents are always so thankful for the well-rounded education we are able to expose their children to at such an early age, as a result of our preschool being part of a larger school unit. We are very thankful for the unique learning opportunities that our fine arts department offers to our Happy Huskie Preschool children.”
