Wisconsin DNR wants input on conifer management plans

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is seeking comments on new plans for managing conifer plantations on state properties.

The DNR has proposed a variance to the master plans for the properties to control pests and diseases in the trees, remove hazardous trees and enhance the scenic beauty of the land for users.

Properties that would be subject to the changes include Big Foot Beach, Blue Mound, Devil’s Lake, Governor Dodge, Kinnickinnic, Mill Bluff and Pattison state parks; the Bearskin State Trail; the Browntown-Cadiz Spring State Recreational Area; the Havenwoods State Forest; and Ice Age Trial areas in Dane, Lincoln, Marathon, Polk, Washington, Waupaca and Waushara counties.

The variance is available on the DNR’s website. Comments should be mailed or emailed to Craig Anderson, the DNR’s state parks program ecologist.
