Congress has role in keeping peace with Iran

After a decade-long dispute over Iran’s nuclear program, it is wonderful to hear that our administration’s diplomatic efforts to begin resolving this issue has born fruit. I know that it’s a first step toward a complete dismantling of Iran’s uranium enrichment efforts, but it must be seen as a vital breakthrough in this impasse.

Our congressional representatives, especially Sen. Mark Kirk and Sen. Dick Durbin, must not allow any efforts to sabotage this historic step toward a peaceful resolution of this issue. Already we hear about efforts to undermine this agreement by passing new sanctions against Iran. Instead, Congress should be looking carefully at the agreement and making sure that the agreement is honored by Iran.
