Prospect quickly back on track

It took about a quarter of basketball for Prospect's boys team to shake off the previous night's overtime loss against Highland Park, but once the Knights did so, there was no doubt and no looking back.

The Knights (2-1) trailed Walther Christian Academy 24-21 after the first quarter Wednesday, but they put it all together in the second, outscoring the Broncos 27-4. The Knights were in control the rest of the way in an 88-62 victory in the Joe Majkowski Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament at St. Viator's Cahill Gym.

“We weren't prepared for their quick shots in the first quarter,” Prospect coach John Camardella said. “Their open guys made their shots.

“We got over the hump pretty fast,” Camardella said, referring to Tuesday's loss. “Any basketball player will say you have to have a short memory.”

Prospect seniors Bobby Frasco and Danny Thomas were the scoring leaders. Frasco scored a game-high 28 points and had 3 assists, and Thomas scored 22 along with 4 rebounds and 6 assists. The Knights outrebounded Walther 50-34 and dished out 17 assists.

“It was a great night for both of them,” Camardella said. “It's something we ask Bobby and Danny to do for the team.”

“We knew it would be a more up-tempo game,” Thomas said. “We know they're a fast team. Bobby had a mismatch, so we pounded it inside, and they couldn't stop him.”

“Other players were scoring, which opened it up for me,” said Frasco, who scored 15 points in the second quarter. Twelve players scored for the Knights.

The Knights scored the first 10 points of the second quarter, and, after R'Mandre Stockley (team-best 23 points) made the Broncos' only basket of the quarter, went on a 17-2 run, scoring the final 15 points of the half.

Walther closed to within 52-38 midway through the third quarter behind 6 points from Stockley and 4 from Antwan Morrison (6 points), but the Knights responded with a 9-0 burst for a 61-38 lead.

Prospect's reserves played most of the fourth quarter and outscored the Broncos 23-20.
