Antioch goes to 4-0; Stevenson rolls

For the first time in 20 years, Antioch’s girls basketball team has started its season at 4-0 after defeating Resurrection 51-45 Tuesday night.

Paige Gallimore led the Sequoits with her first double-double of the season, scoring 26 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Alexis Duehr also had her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Sequoits coach Tim Borries said, “When the Sequoits were trailing in the first quarter, Duehr is the one that sparked the comeback with her intense defense and speed.”

Antioch outscored Resurrection 15-1 in the last four minutes of the game to take the win. The Sequoits also hustled on the boards, winning the rebound battle 45-22.

Stevenson 71, St. Charles East 48: Three Patriots scored in double digits as the team improved its record to 2-2 in the Schaumburg tournament.

Taylor Buford scored 23 points, Janine Fajardo had 18 points and Sophia Way added 14, including two 3-pointers for Stevenson.

Vernon Hills 64, Glenbrook North 11: Vernon Hills won its tournament, finishing with a 5-0 record. The Cougars were led by Sydney Smith who had 26 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Katie Brettman had 16 points and 7 rebounds, and Monica Bahlmann added 9 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

Libertyville 40, Westinghouse 36: At Maine South, Claire Keefe scored 15 points for the Wildcats, who notched their first win of the season.
