W. Chicago firefighters give back to community

After seeing the devastation following recent tornadoes in Central Illinois, WCPFFA members wanted to help, and requested that the West Chicago Fire Protection District headquarters station be turned into a donation collection center. The results far exceed expectations, and the search is now on to find a truck large enough to bring all of the donated items to the Washington, IL on Friday, November 29th.

November, 2013, WCPFFA members continue their over five year tradition of supporting local low-income families during the holidays by donating $500 of their personal funds to Winfield Township's "Adopt-a-Family" program. More information about the program can be found at: www.winfieldtownship.com.

Members of the WCPFFA held their second annual "Chili Cook Off For a Cure" and raised over $11,000 for breast cancer awareness and research by the Keep a Breast Foundation (www.keep-a-breast.org) . The event was held in October, 2013 at Hawthorne's Backyard in West Chicago, IL (www.hawthornesbackyard.com) and featured a chili cook off competition, silent auctions, raffles, live entertainment and an appearance by the "Pink Fire Engine" from the Pink Heals cancer awareness group (www.pinkhealsil.org). More information about the event can be found at: www.facebook.com/Chiliforacure.
