Carpentersville man convicted of molesting child

A 38-year-old Carpentersville was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 4-year-old child, officials said.

Francisco Nava, of the 0-100 block of Meadowlark Lane, was convicted Friday of the class 2 felony by Kane County Circuit Court Judge John A. Barsanti.

Nava fondled the victim, whom he knew, in March 2012. The victim told a relative, who dismissed the story, authorities said. The victim later told the victim's parents, who contacted authorities.

Nava, who had been free on $10,000 bond, was taken into custody at the Kane County jail.

The sentence could range from probation, to three to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 10. Nava also must register for life as a sex offender.
