Hastings Lake Preserve reopened:

The Hastings Lake Forest Preserve in Lake Villa has reopened following extensive public access improvements and restoration of natural areas, the Lake County Forest Preserve District said in a news release. Amenities include a new, 2-mile paved trail around the lake, which offers scenic overlooks, boardwalks and fishing piers. Trails are open to bicycling, hiking and cross-country skiing. Horses and snowmobiles are not permitted. The preserve also features a large shelter with a stone fireplace, heated restrooms, drinking water, electricity, and a large patio area with a grill that can be reserved year-round. The main entrance is on Gelden Road, southwest of Grass Lake Road in Lake Villa. A second entrance is on Munn Road, north of Grand Avenue (Route 132). Hastings Lake is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to sunset. Visit http://www.lcfpd.org/preserves/.
