Oakbrook Center preparing for ‘Holiday Spectacular’

Brightly lighted reindeer, twinkling trees and giant snowflakes dot the landscape this week at Oakbrook Center as it prepares to welcome the holidays.

The recently renovated outdoor mall is planning to celebrate its coming-out party with a “Holiday Spectacular” from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, near Crate & Barrel and Macy’s at 22nd Street and Route 83 in Oak Brook,

The interactive and theatrical event will include photo opportunities with a live reindeer, strolling carolers, art demonstrations and a Lantern Night Processional led by the Mobile DJ Unit.

Organizers say there also are plans for a 12-foot Old Man Winter and Snow Maiden; a candy sculptor; and, of course, an appearance by Santa in the new Glass Pavilion.

The party will be held on the mall’s Village Green, one of many amenities added during the center’s recently completed two-year facelift.

Suzanne Beres, senior marketing manager, said the center has installed roughly 6,000 parapet lights to outline the top of its buildings and crews have placed 4,350 other strings of LED lights around the grounds.

She said Friday’s celebration is a perfect opportunity to showcase the mall’s new look.
