Lisle man charged with setting playground fire

A Lisle man has been charged with starting an August fire that destroyed playground equipment at Kingston Park in an unincorporated area near Lisle, police said Wednesday.

Michael Bucher, 22, faces felony charges of criminal damage to state-supported property and criminal damage to property by fire or explosives.

Shortly before 5 a.m. Aug. 13, DuPage County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a fire at Kingston Park at Kingston Avenue and Kohley Road. According to a news release, the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District deemed the blaze “suspicious.”

Police said the matter was turned over to sheriff’s detectives for an investigation that led to Bucher’s arrest.

Damage to the playground equipment was estimated at more than $10,000.

Bucher, of the 5400 block of Burr Oak Street in Lisle, was jailed Wednesday on $35,000 bail.
