Shock among students, nuns working in hospital

Where were you when JFK was shot? I was a student nurse at St. Anne’s Hospital on Chicago’s West Side. Some of us heard the news on the floors. I was between classes. We already knew as we were asked to gather in the student lounge. When we knew it was really true, we were all devastated — students, teachers and nuns in shock. We all were glued to the TV. As it was a Friday, a lot of us were able to go home for the weekend (I lived in Arlington Heights). Everyone you met was grieving. The whole nation grieved together. Many years later, I visited the site and museum in Dallas. It was a painful experience.
