Des Plaines accepts winter clothes donations

The city of Des Plaines is collecting new hats, gloves, mittens and scarves for those in the community who are in need, officials said.

Donations for the Mitten Tree Project are being accepted starting today through Dec. 13 at eight locations in town. Items will be distributed to local schools, the Self-Help Closet & Pantry of Des Plaines and Bessie’s Table.

The drop-off locations are Des Plaines City Hall in the first floor lobby at 1420 Miner St., Frisbie Senior Center at 52 E. Northwest Highway, Prairie Lakes Community Center at 515 E. Thacker St., Des Plaines Public Library in the children’s department at 1501 Ellinwood St., St. Zachary Church at 567 W. Algonquin Road, First Midwest Bank at 749 Lee St., Kmart at 1155 Oakton St., and Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth at 310 N. River Road.
