Some smallmouth anglers pull in some big catches

Cold and snow you say?

Well, that may not bother some die-hard smallmouth anglers determined to cash in on some very large smallies.

Two South Side fishermen, with a bent for numb fingers and dripping noses, inched their way around the outer rocks of Calumet Harbor. They finally connected and found a small pod of jumbo smallmouth bass.

The lure of choice happened to be jumbo chubs and cooked shrimp (for bait not the dinner table). I am sworn to secrecy as to the exact location of this find.

In the meantime winter perching for jumbos seems to be a bust on the far north end.

Fox Chain: Crappie action still holding its own on Channel Lake as well as decent action on Petite Lake too.

Pistakee Lake: A few walleyes caught by trollers in eight foot depths.
