Police investigating crash that killed Harvard man

McHenry County Sheriff’s police are investigating a single vehicle crash that killed one man on Saturday morning.

McHenry County Sheriff’s officials, the Harvard Fire Protection District and the Harvard Police Department responded to a crash in the area of McGuire Road at Lindwall road in Hartland Township, incorporated McHenry County, at 10:51 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release.

Police said a 2008 Kia Amanti was traveling eastbound on McGuire Road when it exited the roadway and traveled for several hundred feet through a field before hitting a utility pole head on.

The driver, Howard E. Walker, 83 of Harvard, was taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to a news release.

Walker was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police said.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Traffic Crash Investigation Unit.
