Police said a 2008 Kia Amanti was traveling eastbound on McGuire Road when it exited the roadway and traveled for several hundred feet through a field before hitting a utility pole head on.

The driver, Howard E. Walker, 83 of Harvard, was taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to a news release.

Walker was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police said.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Traffic Crash Investigation Unit.
