As part of its ongoing commitment to philanthropic activities in the communities it serves, Accretive Health employees founded an organization dedicated to charitable giving, with Accretive Health, Inc., providing an initial financial endowment. Accretive Helping Hands was launched in December 2012 as an exciting new way for Accretive Health's 1,750 U.S. employees to extend their volunteerism. Accretive Helping Hands helps patients and their families navigate the difficulties encountered after treatment by partnering with community healthcare and social work providers.
Recently, Accretive Helping Hands volunteers worked at the nonprofit organization Forgotten Harvest in Detroit, Mich. The 14 volunteers packaged 3,000 pounds of freshly harvested potatoes into 5-pound portions to be distributed to needy families and shelters in the Detroit metropolitan area.
"We had a blast and cannot wait to repeat this valuable volunteer experience," said Mary Ellen Turk, Accretive Health senior manager of ISQ (intra-stay quality). "We were happy to help the community and families in need."
