Cary-Grove snares FVC title

Cary-Grove’s Becca Elrod won two events and the Trojans took home seven medals Saturday to win the Fox Valley Conference girls swimming meet at Woodstock North.

Elrod won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:14.05 and the 500 freestyle in 5:20.92 as Cary-Grove scored 247 points. The Jacobs/Hampshire co-op was second with 218 points and Huntley third with 191.

Other winners for Cary-Grove included Ashlyn Baker in the 200 free (2:00.91), Hannah Weber in the 50 free (25.29) and Melissa Rose in the breaststroke (1:05.91). The Trojans also won the 200 free relay in 1:44.26 and the 400 free relay in 3:45.05.

The Jacobs/Hampshire co-op set a conference record in the 200 medley relay, recording a time of 1:53.48. Team members were Jacqueline O’Connor, Erin Jameson, Sydney Erickson and Nicole Sanchez, who also won the 100 free in a time of 55.23.

One other conference record was set, that by McHenry’s Michaela Matthys, who swam the 100 butterfly in 58.76.

IHSA sectional meets are next Saturday.
