Drug dealer gets 9 years in man's heroin death

JOLIET — The Will County state's attorney says a drug dealer has been sentenced to nine years in prison for providing heroin to a man who later died of an overdose.

Authorities say 25-year-old Emerson D. Harris of Bolingbrook pleaded guilty Friday to one count of drug-induced homicide. They say Harris sold heroin to Chad Conley last year.

Conley's body later was found on the ground in a commercial area, and an autopsy revealed he died of a heroin overdose.

State's Attorney James Glasgow says Harris also pleaded guilty to four counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance in a separate case, and must serve half of a 13 ½-year sentence for that conviction.

The sentences in the two cases will be served concurrently.
