As a part of the company's commitment to philanthropic activities, Accretive Health employees founded an organization dedicated to charitable giving, with Accretive Health, Inc., providing an initial financial endowment. Accretive Helping Hands was launched in December 2012 as an exciting new way for Accretive Health's 1,750 U.S. employees to extend their volunteerism. Most recently, Accretive Helping Hands volunteered at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, a nonprofit food distribution and training center that provides food for the needy, while striving to end hunger in the community.
Accretive Helping Hands volunteers who work at Accretive Health's Chicago Shared Services Center (CSSC) came together on two separate occasions to volunteer. One day was spent packing 14,700 pounds of plums. On another, the CSSC employees invited their families to join them as they packed 3,420 pounds of rice. The plums and the rice were distributed to various organizations in Cook County to help those in need.
"We were happy to come together to make a difference for those in need in Chicago," said Jaclyn Weitzenfeld, an Accretive Health employee who volunteered. "The kids had a great time, and it was a pleasure meeting the extended families of our fellow employees to better our community."
