Southwestern Indiana man gets 60 years in man’s fatal stabbing

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A southwestern Indiana man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for his role in the stabbing death of a man in the victim’s home.

Thirty-two-year-old Hubert Mayhugh III was sentenced Thursday following his September conviction on murder, armed robbery, burglary and theft charges.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports Mayhugh is one of three people charged in 42-year-old Keith Vaughn’s March 2012 murder.

Mayhugh’s 19-year-old cousin, James Levi Mayhugh, and 23-year-old Megan Mecum also face murder charges in the killing.

Mecum was married to Vaughn at the time of his death and testimony during Hubert Mayhugh’s trial indicated she was having an affair with James Mayhugh.

Two witnesses at Hubert Mayhugh’s trial also testified that he confessed to killing Vaughn during a confrontation inside Vaughn’s house.
