Remembering our veterans

It turns out Saturday, Nov. 9, will be another opportunity when we can honor our veterans.

St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in West Dundee will honor past and present veterans at 7 p.m. at the church, 845 W. Main St.

It’s an event that will give you a chance to thank the veterans in attendance for their service. You can also you write in a registry those who you’d like to honor. During the program, the veterans named in the registry will be recognized as well.

Also Saturday, Culver’s of Carpentersville will donate 11 percent of all of its sales to VetsRoll, a nonprofit organization that takes veterans from World War II and the Korean War on free, four-day trips to Washington, D.C., every spring to see their respective memorials.

The eatery will also donate 100 percent of its profits from its “patriot sundae,” which is one scoop of vanilla custard topped with blueberries, strawberries and strawberry sauce.

In addition, from 1 to 2 p.m., the eatery will hold a Salute to Veterans ceremony just outside of its store.

Remembering the Kennedy years: The Algonquin Area Public Library District invites you to commemorate the upcoming anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination with “Jacqueline Kennedy: A One Woman Show.”

The free show is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, a the library’s main branch at 2600 Harnish Drive.

As part of the show, being held 10 days before the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s slaying, actress and historian Leslie Goddard will portray the former first lady’s life in the White House by discussing her family struggles, public projects and her husband’s murder.
