Reps ask: How many Illinois insurance cancellations

A half-dozen U.S. House Republicans from Illinois are asking the state's top insurance official to answer questions related to President Barack Obama's health care law.

The six congressmen announced Tuesday they wrote to Illinois Department of Insurance Director Andrew Boron. Their letter asks how many cancellation notices have been sent to Illinois health insurance policyholders this year. And it requests the average cost increase for health insurance on the individual market for 2014.

A spokesman says the insurance department is preparing a response.

The letter comes as Obama faces criticism over his repeated pledge that anyone who liked their health care plan would be able to keep it.

The letter is signed by U.S. Reps. John Shimkus, Peter Roskam, Aaron Schock, Adam Kinzinger, Randy Hultgren and Rodney Davis.
