Prairie Crossing Learning Farm to offer “Homemade Yogurt & Granola” workshop

Homemade yogurt is easy to prepare, and does not include the artificial flavors or colors sometimes found in commercially prepared yogurts. Topped with homemade granola, this healthy and delicious combination provides a satisfying treat that everyone can enjoy.

To learn how to make yogurt and granola at home, register for the “Homemade Yogurt & Granola” workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Prairie Crossing Learning Farm. The Learning Farm is located inside the Prairie Crossing subdivision, 32400 N. Harris Road, Grayslake.

The $40 workshop is for adults and requires advance registration at www.prairiecrossing.com/farm/learning.php. Participants will learn several methods for making yogurt, using common kitchen equipment as well as different types of yogurt makers. They will also make a batch of granola to sample with the yogurt, and receive samples and recipes to bring home.

“Increasing numbers of people are striving toward a more self-sufficient lifestyle and are growing and preparing more of their food from scratch. Through this workshop, we can share our passion with those seeking a similar lifestyle,” said Sharon Gaughan, Learning Farm Education program director.

The mission of the Prairie Crossing Learning Farm is to educate and inspire people to value healthy food, land and community through experiences on the farm.
