QUINCY -- A Michigan man has been sentenced to six months in jail in connection with an all-terrain vehicle wreck that killed a woman last year in western Illinois.
The Quincy Herald-Whig reports that 31-year-old Andrew J. Koster of Kalamazoo, Mich., was sentenced Thursday. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge in September. He also received two years of probation.
Authorities say Koster was driving the ATV when it crashed on Sept. 14, 2012, in rural Adams County on property owned by a hunting outfitter, killing 25-year-old passenger Sara Birsic.
Koster wept in court before he was sentenced, saying he hopes Birsic's family "will find it in their hearts to forgive me."
Birsic's mother, Kathleen Birsic, said during her statement that the family's "tears flow every day."
