Fatal accident closes Dan Ryan for hours

Illinois State Police say one person was killed when an auto and dump truck collided on Chicago’s Dan Ryan Expressway, forcing the closing of northbound lanes for several hours.

Authorities said the Friday afternoon accident occurred when the auto clipped the front of the truck, causing it to crash into a concrete median.

A Chicago Fire Department spokesman said the driver of the truck was ejected from the cab and pronounced dead at the scene. A second person refused medical attention. Neither victim was identified.

The accident occurred around 2 p.m., just north of where Interstate 57 merges with Interstate 94 on the South Side.

The northbound lanes of the expressway were closed until about 6:30 p.m.
