Mental health treatment ordered for McHenry County man

A 24-year-old man will receive inpatient mental health treatment after he was found not guilty by reason of insanity in his mother’s stabbing death.

The Northwest Herald reports Raymond E. Davis, formerly of Johnsburg, had a fitness hearing Wednesday in McHenry County court. In September Judge Sharon Prather ruled prosecutors proved Davis killed his mother, 58-year-old Carol Schritz, but psychiatrists found he was legally insane.

Officials say Davis can be committed for up to 60 years, or the maximum amount of prison time he would serve if convicted of murder.
