Enjoy fun ‘Blithe Spirit’ at ECC Nov. 1-17

Submitted by ECC

Actors from Elgin Community College will combine laughter and paranormal activity in ECC Theatre’s performance of the classic Noël Coward comedy, “Blithe Spirit,” Nov. 1-17, at the ECC Arts Center’s SecondSpace Theatre located in Building H on the Spartan Drive Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive.

“Blithe Spirit” centers on a fussy, cantankerous novelist named Charles Condomine who decides to hold a seance to research his next book. Unfortunately, this exploration of the paranormal has an alarming side effect: His first wife, Elvira, returns to haunt him. For Charles’s current wife, Ruth, Elvira’s presence is no laughing matter, particularly since Elvira seems eager to reclaim her former husband — either in this world or the next. As worldly and otherworldly personalities clash, Charles’s relationship with his second wife becomes understandably complicated in this classic Coward comedy.

“Blithe Spirit” is directed by ECC theater instructor, H. Russ Brown, who will make his ECC directorial debut. He has previously taught/guest lectured at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Illinois State University, North Carolina School of the Arts, and Ball State University. He holds an master in fine arts degree in acting from Western Illinois University.

The cast includes: Sarah Merlo of Newcastle, Australia; Becca Willaert of St. Charles; Elliot Simmons of East Dundee; Paula Smiech of Streamwood; Leah Soderstram of East Dundee; Rebecca Stellato of Elgin; and Keaton Fahnestock of South Elgin.

Performances held Fridays and Saturdays will begin at 7:30 p.m. Matinee performances on Sundays, Nov. 10 and Nov. 17 will begin at 3 p.m.
